We're on a roll here...what can you do for your bathroom to spruce it up for a brand new year?

  1. Clear sink and shower drains – whoosh! Now isn’t that better?
  2. Splurge on new towels and bathmats. Instant makeover!
  3. Launder your shower curtain and liner.
  4. Clean out the cabinets under the sink and/or linen closet.

Other ideas?

We're moving from an apartment to a rental home at the end of the month, and one of my vows to myself, is to always keep the guest bathroom in good order, as if I were expecting guests at any time. This will take a lot of work with a potty-training three year old boy, and a 16 year old boy, but I know it can be done.

I want to make it somewhere that is pretty and inviting, but functional too. There is limited space, so we are going to try and get one of those over the toilet space savers, to "hide away" all the "stuff".

I've decided that my kids bathroom is going to be my first project this year. I've already started decorating it with a beach sandal theme. Now I need to finish it. I'm going to paint and replace the medicine cabinet/mirror. I'd also like to replace the faucet and countertop and paint the cabinet. When we put in a new vinyl floor last year we had to remove the bottom row of tile from the wall. I have tile to put back but I haven't figured out how to remove the old adhesive yet so that's probably about my first project to figure out. I also need to re-grout, especially around the tub and sink. This is a small bathroom (4.5' x 9'). Does anyone have any ideas on how to incorporate some kind of hamper? There's no floor room to just put one in and I'm really tired of picking up wet towels and clothing from the floor after bath time.

Hi RioOsoDesigns - guests at any minute? That's a lot of pressure - lol! Be sure to keep an extra bath mat on hand "just in case" during potty training. :)

ilovedesign - I gave up on a hamper in the bathroom and now it sits in the hall:

And towels? I just hook 'em - much easier! - oh, and we did a beach theme too - and used beach towels instead of bath towels.

Susan - I love the hallway idea since the hall is actually almost as wide as the bathroom. Think I can re-train the kids? As for hooks in the bathroom...I've tried to put up bars, but not hooks so I might try that. The problem I've run into is that the walls are an early form of drywall and I'm having trouble finding a good way to hang things that have much weight. Any ideas? Oh, and I'll try to get before/after pics anyway.

I'm no drywall expert, but I would think a board with hooks would be stronger - I got that one at Restoration Hardware and so far (knock on wood) so good.

Oh, and everyone did well with retraining w/laundry in the hall - they even separate their dirty duds into the 3 compartments pretty well! Even hubby figured it out - lol.
